This house was built no later than 1853. One of its postwar residents was Thomas Nelson Conrad, a former Confederate spy who plotted unsuccessfully to kidnap Lincoln. Conrad served as the third president of the Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College (Virginia Tech).
