Mountain View (Amiss-Palmer House) was the most impressive house in Blacksburg when George Crook occupied the town after Cloyd’s Mountain. The ladies of the house convinced Col. Rutherford B. Hayes not to use the house as Union headquarters, but Union soldiers camped nearby. (Mountain View Dr., not open to public.)
