Student Projects
Virginia Tech students researched, designed, and built a museum exhibit, Enacting Freedom: Black Virginians in the Age of Emancipation. The exhibit was on display in Appomattox until April 2023.
"The Civil War in Indian Country: Visualizing Native America,1861-1865" mapping project explores how Indigenous people in all corners of the United States were involved in the Civil War. With rare images and primary sources, the project offers unique glimpses at how Native people experienced the crisis of disunion. Developed in the classroom by Virginia Tech students, "The Civil War in Indian Country" invites all students of Civil War history to learn about Native histories of the era.
